The Idoma are an ethnic-linguistic group that primarily inhabits lower and western areas of Benue state,Nigeria, and kindred groups can be found in Cross Rivers and Nasarawa states. They are known to be warriors and farmers of class, but very hospitable and peace-loving. On the intellectual plain, the Idoma have produced professors and other distinguish men of letters across the globe.
Politically, they have contributed immensely to the unity, peace and development of Nigeria from the pre independence era till date. The history of Nigeria will not be complete without mentioning the Idoma heroes/heroines who sacrificed their comfort on the altar of Nigeria unity. An excellent example is the ‘DOCTRINE OF NECESSITY’ by Senator David Mark and his co-travelers at the upper legislative chamber. That Solomonic sagacity saved Nigeria from near collapse and stabilised the political atmosphere that was heading for chaos and anarchy. Other Idoma heroes that fought tirelessly and are still fighting for Nigeria’s unity include Senator Ameh Ebute, Comrade Abba Moro, Gen. Ejiga, Col. Ochefu, Gen. Onoja, Gen.Garuba, Col. Idoko, Chief Audu Ogbe, Chief Edwin Ogbu, just to mention a few. These civilian cum military Generals have contributed in no small measure to Nigeia’s unity. In sports, the list is endless as Daniel Amokachi, Ogenyi Onazi, Peter Ogaba, Mike Idoko among others, all hail from the Idoma nation.
Recently, the Department of Security Service (DSS) declared one Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche wanted in connection with the Nyanya bomb blast that claimed several lives and destroyed property worth millions of naira. The DSS also claimed that Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche is a son of Col. Agene Ogwuche(Rtd), who hails from Orokam in Benue State. Since I was delivered into the global cycle called earth, I have never heard nor witnessed any act of terrorism passively or actively by any Idoma son or daughter. Where on earth is this monster and Satan’s first son from? Is the paternity of this harbinger of death and destruction correct? Don’t you think there is a biological mistake somewhere? Well, the answer to the above questions lies only on the laps of the gods. But as a concerned Idoma son, I challenge the father of the suspected terrorist to go for a DNA test to ascertain the paternity of Aminu. I remain skeptical as well as other millions of Idoma as regards the paternity of Aminu until the DNA test prove beyond every reasonable skepticism that he is truly an Idoma son. But as we await the result, I pray to God Almighty that may Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche never be Idoma. May the Idoma ancestors/gods(ALEKWU) strike him dead if the result confirms him Idoma. The Idoma are not terrorists, they are not criminals, they are not violent and they are not Boko Haram. They are peace-loving and patriotic Nigerians. God bless Nigeria!
