Tola Kasali, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC and Musiliu Folami, Special Adviser on Politics and Legislative Matters,to Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos state were on Tuesday arraigned for murder.
According to PUNCH, Kasali’s Chief Security Officer, Tobun Abiodun was also arraigned.
The trio were arraigned before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court on a four count charge bordering on murder and unlawful possession of firearms.
The trio allegedly killed one Musiliu Lamidi, who was a member of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP on November 9, 2014, around 2pm at Eko Tourism Hotel, Akodo, in the Ibeju-Lekki area of the state.
Police report claims that they were found in possession of a pump-action gun, with number 6381, without a valid licence issued by the appropriate authorities. The corpse of the deceased was said to have been found on the premises of one of the defendants.
Pleas were not taken at the hearing although the accused persons were granted bail and the case adjourned to December 11, 2014.
The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly suffered defection of some of its key lawmakers in the state’s House of Assembly.
Tribune reported on Tuesday that eight members of the state House of Assembly defected from the state ruling APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The defection letter was read on the floor of the assembly by the Speaker, Hon. Suraj Adekunbi, during the first plenary session after the one month recess the lawmakers embarked on.
”I received a letter announcing the defection of Messrs Joseph Adegbesan, Salmon Adeleke, John Obafemi, Remmy Hazzan and Obafemi Olowo-Oloja to the PDP. I also got three letters this morning from Honourable Olufemi Allen-Taylor, Oludaisi Elemide and Elizabeth Anifowose announcing their defection from the All Progressive Party (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP),” Adekunbi said.
It was gathered that five lawmakers defected to PDP and three others to SDP. The lawmakers officially defected from the APC and the Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN) on the floor of the assembly.
Meanwhile, Adegbesan, Adeleke and Obafemi abandoned the PPN to join the PDP, Hazzan and Olowo-Oloja dumped the APC for the PDP.
The speaker also revealed that the state Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, would, on November 18, present the 2015 budget proposal to the state House of Assembly.

The
Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, on Thursday
accused a former Sports Minister, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, who publicly
declared his membership of the All Progressives Congress on Wednesday,
as being an APC mole in President Goodluck Jonathan’s government.
The PDP Kwara State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Rex Olawoye, in a statement said PDP was not surprised at Abdullahi’s declaration.
He alleged that unknown to many
Nigerians, Abdullahi on Saturday, February 8, 2014 secretly registered
as a card-carrying member of the APC in Kwara State.
He stated that Abdullahi actually became a member of the APC five months ago, before Jonathan sacked him.
Olawoye said, “His latest ‘open
declaration’ was only a façade to deceive unsuspecting members of the
public. This development has therefore evidently confirmed the fear of
well-meaning Nigerians, who raised the alarm then that Mallam Abdullahi,
was planted in the cabinet of President Goodluck Jonathan by the
opposition APC to sabotage the government of Nigeria from within. The
good news, though, is that he was spotted by the Presidency way before
he could do further damage to the government he pretended to be serving.
“On national development, there is no
worst case of self-indictment than that of a man who served for an
upward of four years as a Commissioner of Education to now turn around
to lament over the quality of education in the state, and by extension,
the country at large!
“What can Abdullahi point to as his
concrete contributions to the socio-economic development of Kwara State
in the last eight years that he presided over critical state and federal
ministries and parastatals? How has he impacted on the lives of his
people within the period that he held sway as both minister in charge of
sports and the youths ministries?
Olawoye stated that it was only when
Abdullahi and his handlers were able to truthfully answer the above
questions that he could have the moral high ground to disparage the
claimed impressive achievements recorded over the years by the PDP-led
Federal Government.
According to him, Abdullahi is a
liability to any political party that he joins. Olawoye alleged that the
sacked the former sports minister was a man with a past that was
riddled with controversies.
He advised the APC to ensure that
Abdullahi was asked to first purge himself of the vestiges of the past
before he could be formally admitted into the APC.
Olawoye said, “Abdullahi should be asked
to seek the forgiveness of families of innocent public school teachers,
who his obnoxious and draconian policies when he was Kwara State
Commissioner of Education, sent to their earlier graves.”

Sesay, 32, and his team-mates want to stay in Scotland until the epidemic is contained in Sierra Leone.
He added: “All of us are scared about returning home. We have a
three-month visa in our passports and if I have the opportunity I will
stay here until this ends.
“The president has spoken about public areas maybe being closed from Saturday.
“I’m worried about my family back home. I have a wife and a baby girl who is five months old.
“I want to talk with them but I haven’t had a chance.
“It’s scary over there. My mum is a nurse so she may have to treat people. My wife also works in the medical
field. So I am scared for them and we are scared to go home.”

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed on Wednesday they are finalising a new deal for national coach Stephen Keshi.
Following
an executive committee meeting in Abuja the NFF said in a statement
they have approved that acting president Mike Umeh call an emergency
meeting to ensure Keshi`s re-engagement "within the shortest possible
time".
It is believed that Keshi will receive an improved
contract of 7 million Naira (over $44,000) a month, up from his current
five million Naira.
Keshi took over in 2011 and his first
contract ended after the World Cup. The 52-year-old led Nigeria to the
round of 16 in Brazil after guiding the Super Eagles to a third Africa
Cup of Nations title in South Africa last year.
Keshi`s immediate assignment would be the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which begin in September.
Defending
champions Nigeria are in a qualifying group with South Africa, Sudan
and either Congo or Rwanda with the top two advancing to January`s
Nations Cup in Morocco.
Meanwhile, the NFF said that an
extraordinary congress will no longer take place on Thursday as planned

Facebook launched an app on Thursday that will give users
in Zambia free access to its social network as well as other critical
internet sites, in a boost to its plan to to extend web access to the
4.25 billion people who lack it.
“The Internet.org app will be available first to Airtel subscribers in
Zambia and we’ll continue to improve the experience and roll it out to
other parts of the world,” Facebook product manager Guy Rosen said in a
blog posting.
He said that the app would offer free access to 13 websites, including
AccuWeather; Google Search; Go Zambia Jobs; Wikipedia; WRAPP, a women’s
rights app; and of course, Facebook.
Airtel would cover the cost of the free access in the hope that
customers would upgrade their plans to allow them even more internet
access, Rosen said.
Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg announced the Internet.org initiative last
summer. Last week he announced that similar programs in the
Phillipines, Paraguay and Tanzania had added 3 million new internet
users. “This is a big step forward in achieving the mission of Facebook
and Internet.org,” Zuckerberg said of the Zambia launch. “We’re looking
forward to bringing free basic services to more countries soon.”
